THREE WAYS SYNONYMS ARE TESTED IN FCE

THREE WAYS SYNONYMS ARE TESTED IN THE FCE
Remember that feeling when you're writing a letter or a piece of work and you see you've repeated the same word two or three times in the same paragraph? It doesn't matter which language you're using, learning and using synonyms (words that have a similar meaning) is a sure sign you have a good breadth of vocabulary. So you won't be surprised to know the same applies to FCE.
1) You won't get extra marks in the Writing paper for repeating a word again and again - no matter how advanced it is.
2) You'll be tested on synonyms in Use of English Part 1 - the multiple choice cloze.
3) And in Part 4 you'll need to transform or re-write sentences, which will often require the use of a synonym.
If this is an area you need to work on, this week's FCE Exam Success Plus includes practice for these parts of the Use of English paper. Find out more about FCE Exam Success here:
